Crushed under the weight of my own perfection
I need some advice. I don't have a television to hypnotise the kids while I make dinner. I also make all our food from scratch. It takes time. I've tried to buy prepared food, but I can't. It's just too icky. So here's the question: What do you do with a one-year-old while you're trying to cook and he just wants to open all the cupboards and dump everything out on the floor? He does not like his high chair well enough to sit in it. His sister's idea of interacting with him is hitting him/running away screaming "He's going to touch me!" I'm going nuts. Thanks in advance.

I would recommend having one cupboard he can play with. It works well for us. Let him play, then clean it up when dinner is done.
ReplyDeleteThanks for your thought. We actually have a drawer or drawers in every room in the house that are just for him to play in. He doesn't like those drawers. He likes the other ones. Alas, I'm afraid that such is life.
ReplyDeleteI haven't read your more recent posts yet, so maybe this is completely not helpful, but I have found it useful to prep as much as I can the night before or in the morning when the babes are happier playing. Those hours between the end of naps and dinner always seem to be full of children with bad moods.
ReplyDeleteI know I'm unprogressive and also unhelpful. But I say hypnotize them with 10 years of Sesame Street episodes on Netflix stream instantly. We have no TV either, but we have a beautiful laptop.
